Recent Work by HCT Members.

Here are some pictures of recent work by Paul Schroeder and Mel Genge.
After laminating Bird’s Eye Maple and Purple Heart Paul turned the candle sticks to this elegant shape. It was a surprise when I pick each one up because the heft and balance was much different than I expected. Paul creates a cavity within the candle stick and fills it with gunshot to give extra weight. This makes for a much more stable tall object. Nicely done Paul.

Mel acquired a quirky piece of Big Leaf Maple as a door prize at Mike’s turning evening. The chunk of wood presented with large voids and bark inclusions so Mel incorporated these into the design. With some pieces cut off prior to turning the bowl Mel was able to make a pen and a lidded box holder. Nice way to transform a stubborn piece of wood Mel.
